Knowledge maps
A knowledge map sets out the key facts and information that children need to have a basic knowledge and understanding of a topic. The body of knowledge and skills that children gain at the end of a topic will be deeper and wider than what is outlined on the knowledge map.
These maths knowledge maps belong to twinkl – an online educational company; we have been given permission to use them on our website. They set out the key vocabulary and knowledge that is introduced during each unit of learning.
To find out when your child covers different topics, look in 05. Curriculum maps.
In the classroom, these maps are used:
· at the beginning of a topic to introduce key concepts and vocabulary
· during a unit of learning for reference, retrieval, review and quizzing
· after a unit of learning for reference when needed and revision
At home, the mathematics knowledge maps will give you a more detailed understanding of what your children need to know and understand to be successful in their learning.
