Reading Journal Challenges
We ask pupils to be creative in the way they respond to their personal reading. Pupils are encouraged to vary their responses and are provided with a set of possible starting points. These reading journal challenges are inside their reading journals.
Reading Journal Expectations
We encourage all parents to continue to read with their children in Year 6. All children, even the most confident readers, will benefit from reading out loud to practise intonation and gain a wider understanding of more complex vocabulary.
Writing at Home
At the end of Key Stage 2, pupils’ writing is assessed against a core set of criteria (called the Teacher Assessment Framework). This document sets out these criteria.
Here you can find a series of documents which are helpful in explaining the key features of the writing genres we learn about
Spelling at Home
Curriculum Word Lists
In Year 6 we try to ensure that all children are secure with the spelling of the Year 5 and 6 curriculum words. These are words stipulated in the National Curriculum and are deliberately challenging. Pupils are given plenty of opportunities to learn these words throughout the year.
Spelling Patterns and Rules
In this document, you will find a list of spelling rules and patterns we cover in Year 6
Maths at Home
This link will take you to how we teach the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in Year 6.
Knowing all multiplication and division facts to 12 x 12 will enable children to be successful with the Year 5 mathematics curriculum. These cards are a great way to practise instant recall of these facts as home.
