Prompt Questions
We encourage all parents to continue to read with their children in Year 5. Some children continue to need support with decoding skills, others benefit from reading out loud to practise intonation and all children.

Curriculum Word Lists
In Year 5, we start the Year by reviewing the pupils’ ability to spell the Year 3 and 4 curriculum words. When pupils are confident they progress onto the Year 5 and 6 curriculum words. These are words stipulated in the National Curriculum and are deliberately challenging. Pupils are given plenty of opportunities to learn these words throughout the year and are assessed on a termly basis.
Spelling Patterns and Rules
In this document, you will find a list of spelling rules and patterns we cover in Year 5

Times Tables
Knowing all multiplication and division facts to 12 x 12 will enable children to be successful with the Year 5 mathematics curriculum. These cards are a great way to practise instant recall of these facts as home.
