At Barnes Primary, Computer Science is about understanding how technology works and learning to create with it. In the early years, children start with simple programming using Beebots and apps like BusyThings and J2Code. As they move through the school, they progress to Scratch Jr and Code Monkey, where they design animations and games. By Year 3 and 4, pupils are introduced to Microbits and learn how to use sequences, loops and selection to control real-world systems. In the upper years, they tackle more advanced projects such as data handling with Microbits, creating websites, and even writing code in Python. These practical experiences help children develop problem-solving skills, logical thinking and creativity, so they leave us with a strong foundation in coding and an understanding of how computers and networks connect our world.
