At Barnes Primary, keeping children safe online is a priority woven through everything we teach in computing. From the very beginning, pupils learn what personal information is and why it should never be shared with strangers. We talk about kindness online, how to respond if something feels wrong, and the importance of asking a trusted adult for help. Each year builds on these foundations: younger children enjoy stories like Smartie the Penguin to understand simple safety rules, while older pupils explore topics such as digital footprints, cyberbullying, and evaluating online content. We also mark Safer Internet Day every February to reinforce these messages. Our goal is simple: to give children the confidence and skills to make sensible choices online, so technology remains a positive and safe part of their lives.
