LGfL (Learning Gateway for London) Getting Started Guide

This guide refers to the Learning Gateway for London (LGfL) which is a collection of resources to which Barnes Primary School has access.

Each child has their own login to LGfL and they have received this login information stuck into their reading journal.

LGfL is accessed from a web browser, just follow the following link:

https://my.uso.im/homepage.aspx

When you visit the LGfL website you will see the following login screen:

Type in your child’s username and password:

• This is not your child’s Teams login (that one won’t work)
• The login information you are looking for looks a bit like this:
  • Username: smithj055.322
  • Password: fishing6

Once you click ‘Login’ you should then be taken to the main page (see below)

Once you have logged in successfully you need to click ‘Resources’,

Next you will see the following screen which shows you all the resources available in LGfL. There are lots!

You don’t need to worry about this though, if you get this far then that’s all you need to do to check your child’s account works ok.
Read on to see how you can find the resources your child needs …

There are lots of resources available on LGfL, but the school only uses some of them.

Your class teachers will tell your child which one they need to use for a specific piece of work, for example two that are commonly used are:

• J2e
• Busy Things

Finding these by scrolling through the list is pretty long-winded; the best way to find what you want is to use the search field.  You can see in the picture below I’ve found j2e.com by typing ‘j2’ in the search box:

Here you can see:

• The search field in the top right has ‘j2’ in it
• The list of resources has been filtered to only show the j2 resources; the school then may ask your child to use ‘j2e’

Once you have found the resource you need you can click on the icon and it will open.

NB Some resources require Adobe Flash, which isn’t supported on iPads at all.  On some computers you may be prompted to ‘enable Flash’.  This is ok, so go ahead and click to enable it.

Here is an example of the j2e resource which automatically logs in your child when they click to open it:

Notes

• You can see in the top right corner that your child’s username is displayed; this means they are logged in and the teacher will be able to track their work in the application.

Here is another example, this time of Busy Things.  Go back to the main LGfL page and try to search for it.  This resource is slightly different.  It doesn’t automatically log your child in.  You have to click on the ‘Normal USO Login’ button in order to be logged in correctly:

Notes:

• Click Normal USO Login to be logged in
• Don’t click ‘Who Am I Login’ – this is used in school but only works if you are within the school building.

Next you will see the following screen:

NB: If you see a padlock in the area highlighted above then you need to click it to be properly logged in.  If that part of the screen is empty … then you are all done!
