Thirty anxious cyclists were steadfast in their view that they hadn’t experienced anything quite like the rapturous send-off pupils and parents gave them at 9.25 am on Friday 8th June 2018. It was a most precious and utterly unique experience! The roars of support created sufficient energy and momentum to get the team all the way to the top of Box Hill. With support like that nobody was not going to make the distance to Paris! What a team of cyclists too: Linda and Kate, for example, were struggling to do a lap around Richmond Park in January . . . yet they put in an 80 mile day and followed that with a 110 mile day. Everyone arrived safely in Paris, on Saturday 9th June, at 6.00 pm local time. As they approached the Eiffel Tower there were loud shrieks from a welcoming party that was made up of wives, husbands, partners and children who had flown out to make a family weekend of it. An amazing £45,000 was raised for our school (and Me Too and Co, an independent Richmond-upon-Thames based charity that provides activities and therapies for children with disabilities and additional needs). A huge thank you to Mitch Pender who was tireless in his extensive efforts to make this exhilarating, life-affirming event happen. Thanks too for the very warm and extremely generous support of all parents.
