Our Year 6 teachers are Margo Rodrigo and Alex Woods.
Margo Rodrigo is the school’s Leader for Learning and a member of the Leadership Team. Prior to her time at Barnes she worked in both the state and the independent sectors. Margo teaches Year 6 and plays a prominent role in developing the quality of teaching at our school. She is also the director of the excellent Year 6 end of year productions. In addition, Margo is involved in working with a number of teachers from other schools through our school partnerships programme. She has made three separate visits to Rusuzumiro Primary School in Rwanda and has played a lead role in strengthening our link and our fundraising for our friends there.
Alex Woods took his degree in Classics before qualifying as a lawyer and spending seven years at the criminal bar. He joined us as a mature schools direct trainee teacher in September 2014. Alex enjoyed a very successful year working closely alongside Rachel Wilson. He was keen to join our team as a classteacher – and we were keen to have him. Alex is now in his fourth year of teaching and he has joined the school’s Leadership Team. He leads on the teaching of grammar and the teaching of design and technology. Alex was very excited at moving to Year 6 in September 2018.
Caroline Palmer joins us at the start of the 2018-19 academic year as a Schools Direct Teacher Trainee. Based at Barnes Primary, she is also attached to St Mary’s University. Caroline will be working closely with Year 6 pupils and Margo Rodrigo will be mentoring her. Prior to teaching Caroline studied at Portsmouth University and graduated with a Masters in Engineering and Business Studies. Upon graduating Caroline joined the airline industry, working within IT on a wide variety of software development programmes. Caroline has a young son who recently started school. Watching his development and enjoyment in learning motivated Caroline to take on the career change and become a teacher. We’re delighted she did.
