Our three Year 5 teachers are Rachel Wilson, Charlie Burr and Kieran Parkin

Rachel Wilson joined our school in September 2005 from an inner London primary school. Rachel heads up the Upper Key Stage team. She is a member of the school’s Leadership Team and the subject leader for science. She and her class won the best primary science film award (and £500 for the school) in the National Physical Laboratory 2010 film competition with ‘Some Like it Hot’. In 2015-16 she submitted a successful application for the award of the Primary Science Quality Mark, at gold standard. She has taught in Years 4, 5 and 6 during her time at our school. From 2012-13 Rachel, who has a young child, decided to work four days a week. As a consequence, James O’Donnell takes 5W on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Charlie Burr teaches 4C. Charlie lived and worked in Paris for her university studies at the University of London, Institute in Paris and gained a 2:1 degree in French studies. Having worked as an English tutor in Paris for the majority of her studies, she decided to move to Quebec, Canada for a year to work for the British Council as a language assistant in a primary school directly after her studies. It was then that she realised that teaching was what she wanted to do most of all. She has recently completed a PGCE from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham and joined Barnes as a Newly Qualified Teacher in September 2017, teaching Year 4. In September 2018 she started her second year of teaching: this time as a Year 5 classteacher. Charlie is also currently completing an M.A. in Education alongside her teaching career.
