Meet the Teachers

Suzy Cole joined us in September 2012. She graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Human Geography from Durham University in 2010. Volunteering in a primary school during her time at university made Suzy realise that teaching was the career she wanted to pursue.  She spent some time running after-school clubs for children in Buenos Aires, Argentina and then gained more experience in several primary schools in Cornwall. Following these experiences Suzy decided to apply for a PGCE.  Studying at the Institute of Education for a Primary PGCE convinced her that London was where she wanted to work and Suzy joined Barnes Primary as a newly qualified teacher in September 2012.  Suzy enjoyed working in Years 1, 3 and 5 during her first year – she had the opportunity to work alongside a number of the excellent experienced teachers at Barnes. She started working in Year 2 in September 2013. In September 2016 she took on a newly created position of Year 3 Leader and she is now teaching a Year 3 class.

Gareth Mantle joined the school as a newly qualified teacher in September 2010, having previously worked as an Office Manager for Edward Cullinan Architects, and having a background in the arts.  Concentrating in Lower Key Stage 2, Gareth has developed his teaching and is now the Subject Leader for Art at the school. He also leads on developing the use of Creative Journals - looking at how all pupils can become visual explorers in anything they do. Gareth has significant skills in computing and art. He moved from Year 4 to Year 3 in September 2016.

Katie Duncombe joined our school on a one year schools direct initial teacher training programme in September 2015. She worked closely with Rachel Wilson in Year 5. Katie enjoyed a very successful year and she was appointed to a permanent teaching position in September 2016. She is in her first year of teaching (though you wouldn’t know it!) and working closely in a ne team with Suzy Cole and Gareth Mantle. More information about Katie and a photograph of her will be appearing shortly.
