Helen Leissle and Shannon Males are our Year 1 teachers.

Helen Leissle gained a BA (Hons.) degree in European Languages and Political Institutions from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1991.  She has lived and worked in France, Italy and Germany, before returning to England to settle and bring up her family.  Once her two children were of school age, Helen decided to enter the teaching profession, studying for a PGCE at St. Mary’s University College, in Twickenham.  Helen joined Barnes in September 2008. For her first four years here she shared a Year 3 class on a job share basis. She became a full-time Year 1 teacher in September 2013. Helen leads on modern foreign languages and is a huge advocate of pupils learning foreign languages.

Shannon Males has been appointed as a Year 1 classteacher and she will work very closely with the very experienced Helen Leissle. Shannon will also be in her first year of teaching. Shannon studied a three year course in Early Childhood and Education at St Mary’s University. She graduated from there this summer. Jade Huxley, our Key Stage 1 Leader, will also be working closely with Shannon.
