Meet the Teachers

Jade Huxley and Helen Leissle are our Year 1 teachers.


Jade Huxley has been with us since September 2008 and is now in her ninth year of teaching.  She attended Lady Margaret sixth form where she gained three A-Levels: history, history of art and government and politics. Subsequently, she attended St Mary’s College  and gained a BA (Hons) in Initial Teacher Training. During her course, she specialized in maths, history and the early years.From September 2011 she took on the role of Early Years Foundation Stage Leader. Jade was previously a Lead Teacher for the Early Years Foundation Stage in Richmond Local Authority.  Jade moved to Year One in September 2013 and took on the role of Key Stage One Leader. In 2016-17 she will be involved in an extended mathematics professional development programme: Teaching for Mastery – primary specialists programme.


Helen Leissle gained a BA (Hons.) degree in European Languages and Political Institutions from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1991.  She has lived and worked in France, Italy and Germany, before returning to England to settle and bring up her family.  Once her two children were of school age, Helen decided to enter the teaching profession, studying for a PGCE at St. Mary’s University College, in Twickenham.  Helen joined Barnes in September 2008. For her first four years here she shared a Year 3 class on a job share basis. She became a full-time Year 1 teacher in September 2013. Helen leads on modern foreign languages and teaches French to Year 2.
